The fox and the child

The fox came closer to the child and inquired where their parents were. The child smirked and rolled his eyes at the fox. "I don't know you, so why should I tell you?" The child then turned away leaving the fox feeling astounded by how rude this child responded to his question.

He then returned to the other foxes but couldn't shake the memory of how rude this child had been. A small being of that kind, should have been accompanied by his parents. What was he doing there alone?

The next day the fox encountered the child again. He remained alone. The fox decided to confront the child once more and asked: " Do you remember me?". The child answered: "I don't." And again, the little one turned away. But the fox noticed the lie. He could sense it, feel it in every part of his being and even thought he saw it in the way the child was carrying on.

When the fox returned home he hoped that their paths would never cross again. Although he witnessed other creatures facing the same rejection the following day. He would at least try to reach the child one last time.

On a sunny morning after his daily walk trough town, he went on a quest to find the child and tell him a piece of his mind. Respectfully of course.

He found the little one sitting on a tree trunk on the edge of the park. The fox sat alongside the child and stayed there, no matter the attitude he got. He was determined to stay close. And as days grew into weeks, the fox grew wherry.

At last the child looked at the fox, facing him with a thankful look in his eyes and said: "Thank you for not leaving me alone, just like my parents did.".
